The Office of Research Services provides administrative and support services for NSCAD student, faculty and institutional research endeavors.<\/p>\n
Externally funded research has expanded significantly in the past few years, and with this growth comes an increased demand for a variety of services. The Office of Research Services provides assistance to the NSCAD research community by:<\/p>\n
\u2022 providing information on sources of grant funding
\n\u2022 promoting grant applications and contract proposals by NSCAD faculty
\n\u2022 supporting project planning, proposal development and project coordination
\n\u2022 processing requests for research funds
\n\u2022 representing NSCAD in negotiations between research sponsors and faculty
\n\u2022 arranging acceptance of funds for sponsored research
\n\u2022 processing all research-related transactions (travel claims, reimbursements, equipment purchases, etc)
\n\u2022 assisting in the organization and presentation of collaborative research ventures
\n\u2022 acting as a liaison between researchers and NSCAD administrative departments
\n\u2022 assisting with ethical and environmental considerations for research projects
\n\u2022 assisting with the development of research policies and procedures
\n\u2022 preparing all financial and outcome reporting to research sponsors
\n\u2022 promoting research within and beyond the NSCAD community<\/p>\n
Kirstie McCallum<\/span><\/strong> Eric MacDonald<\/span><\/strong> Supported through SSHRC’s Institutional Grants program, NSCAD provides seed funding for faculty research projects through an adjudicated application process. Policy<\/a><\/p>\n Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)<\/a> The Research Support Fund <\/a>assists Canadian post-secondary institutions with the indirect costs (the operational costs that underpin an institution\u2019s research activities, i.e., heating, lighting, ethics reviews, facilities for animals used in research, management of intellectual property, environmental assessment and safety compliance. The services that give rise to indirect costs are institutionally based and are not specific to individual research grants) associated with managing their research enterprise, helping them to maintain a world-class research environment. The Research Support Fund for universities is calculated based on a proportion of Tri-Council funded grants earned over a three-year period. Grants can be used to:<\/p>\n \u2022 maintain modern labs and equipment; From 2020-2025, NSCAD used its RSF support to fund research public lecture series, research office grant support to faculty and for the library\u2019s purchase of online direct licenses, cataloguing functions.<\/p>\n With the support of the 2025-26 RSF ($174,995)<\/strong>, NSCAD plans to allocate its grant funds under each of the following five expenditure categories:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Intellectual property and knowledge mobilization : $9,995 (Springboard Atlantic Ltd membership \u2013 administration of agreements and partnerships with industry)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n As well, NSCAD continues to support the research enterprise, by providing one on one support to faculty in the process of developing their research programs.<\/p>\n From 2020-2025, NSCAD used its RSF support to fund research public lecture series, research office grant support to faculty and for the library\u2019s purchase of online direct licenses, cataloguing functions.<\/p>\n \u00a02024-25 RSF ($179,613)<\/strong><\/p>\n Intellectual property and knowledge mobilization : $18,000 (Springboard Atlantic Ltd membership \u2013 administration of agreements and partnerships with industry)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n \u00a02023-24 RSF ($160,642)<\/strong><\/p>\n 2022 \u2013 2023 ($133,846)<\/strong><\/p>\n 2021 \u2013 2022 ($107,007)<\/strong><\/p>\n 2020 \u2013 2021 ($91,215)<\/strong><\/p>\n NSCAD commits to publicly and actively communicate how RSF funds are used at the institution to support research activities.
